Maido Juss

The videos of Maido Juss are so immediately poetic that the impression they make becomes strange. Memories, nostalgia and other such essentially personal phenomena do hold, and always will hold, an important place in art. In Juss’ work, however, our experiences are not revived through someone else’s story; we are ourselves immediately present in the story. To achieve this effect, he not only lets the eye of the viewer become the camera lens, but also obsessively focuses on nature as an impersonal entity, while depicting it as an intimate, directly sensible environment, where the general once again becomes personal.
